She has had a couple of people reschedule on her today,. We finally decided on dates and times for a couple of meeting type things. I ran my course totals and discovered that while a couple of our classes are actually making the magic number headcount at this point, we also have some without anyone in them. and i go0t access to a neat screen in banner today that i probably should not have access to. I have neat freinds. boss lady is busy frownin g over our numbers, not so good. She is gonna end up with more frown lines if she keeps this up.

I just got a call from the accounting dept of a company that we bought something from in July. according to them we have not paid them yet. okay so i take down all the useable info i can get from them, invoice #, po, etc. then i call our controller office. the nice secretary there transfers me to the appropriate person, ie handles that part of the alphabet. she in turns looks it up for me in a part of banner i do not have access to. turns out we paid them as a direct deposit on aug 21. so, we laugh about it a little and i give her the contact info for the person i was talking to at the company who thought we had not paid them yet.

wow.

anyway, friday i went in to the docotr try and figure out why i still feel yucky. she does her normal let's see if you are pregnant. Turns out I am!

She sends me off for an sonogram, because she could not find the fetal heartbeat with the doppler thing. So, I bounce in and grab miteman. I tell him the news then, but he does not believe me. so, off we go to as miteman put it "the hospital that time forgot" for a sonogram. we go back, the tech starts the sono and spots a baby right off. The crown rump measurement is 5.41 cms, which puts me around 12 weeks. miteman no longer doubts. the baby was very active, bouncing and rolling around.

I have to go back to the hospital for blood work and then i get to set-up my first prenatal.

waited too long to get into something specfic i need to take. oh, well. did end up in some classes though.

helped (now) a total of 17 physically add drop. ie walked into the registrar's office with them in tow. works much smoother for the students that way. although, boy do i get some weird looks. our asst registrar and registrar do seem to appreciate it.

i have also done the call/go in to financialaid with or for a student to have something explained completely. that head count is lower only around 11, so far.

apparently not everybody does this. which strikes me as odd. this sort of things helps the student alot.

anyway, back to spend the last of this year's money.

it is amazing. I have had three students in a row come in and try to register only to find out that they can't even log-in because they have been blocked from entering banner. So, we call the help desk. they in turn argue with me about whether or not the student needs access to banner. to which i have to explain that yes this is the only program they can use to register with for the upcoming terms. then i get the run around about how that is not for students, which leads me to wonder how a university can have some big shiny piece of software that is not for student use, when the program is designed for use by both the univ staff and the students. anyway, it has taken going around the system to get each one registered and back in banner. It is nice to know who to talk to, but I still wish i did not have to.

in between frantic probelms!

okay so i am slow to pick up on some of the campus trends. like using my space to communicate more than facebook. but i have finally given slowly painfully ful of creaks giving in.

okay so now i have an acct with very little in it. does not bother me, but i have issues getting people to accept my friend requests. so, i go put more in sort of. then miteman adds a pic. time to take back over and stop just letting it roll.

I tried to change the background. I just do not get it.

help with be forthcoming though.

and all this because the ranch meeting was a circus to say the least. we are talking going back to one drug holding area for all drugs, slaughtering most of our herds, hay orders and me learning new software.

course evals

We are just starting our course evaluations for this semester. ie i am two days in so far. I went to go hand out the ones for ornamental metal working. I get out there late and having forgot the pencils for them to use. so, I hand the forms to one of the more responsible girls to get them started while i run back and grab pencil (golf pencils, less likely to have them walk off, still i am missing about 1/2 of a box). I have to walk all the way around the building because the doors are locked and one of the bossmen has my keys. so I get in grab the pencils head back out to the barn. i am greeted with hey you might want to get us some more forms. i look puzzled but say okay. one of the students then tells me the caught them on fire lighting the forge. grr... so back in i go. this is the first time i have ever had the forms set on fire. this is kinda funny if a little frustrating.

this is did get a good laugh out of beeker and some others.

This of course involved way too much work on my part. and caused a bit more than normal stife in my household.

I have not yet told the chair and dean. but that should be interesting.

Student Workers

I may have done some thing foolish. I just hired yet another student worker. This one solely to cover the phone in the NRM office. and only a couple of days a week for a couple of hours.

One of my favorite's is only worth about 9 hours this term. SO to fill in for her. I hired a new one. At least this one is work study eligable. I can't believe I just did that. oh, well.

Fast repair service in Alpine

This is amazing I called a repair guy to come and check out the heater this morning. and now a mere few hours later it is fixed. I am very glad.

The fans on the heater have been running non-stop for at least 24 hrs or more. Miteman does the over react to something broken routine. so we messed with it some yesterday since we both spent the entire day in the house being sick.

The repair guy made a comment or two about the age of the heater. GRIN. ie we think maybe 60 years or so.

He made a switch fit, the old one crumbled.

anyway this is the best repari service we have had since we moved here by a long shot. ie under 1 1/2 wks.

We have a wildly expensive piece of equipment in this building it is shared by members of 2 different depts.

IT has been in need of some repair recently. So it got shipped off and only recently came back.

IT came back broken a little bit. The goobers trying to see what exactly was broken broke a part a bit more. Not so cool.

However............

I talked the company into sending us the $1,200 part for free and next day air shipping. as well as replacements for all our tubing just in case.

AND

I helped save a student from dropping out completely yet again. Even going so far as to figure out exactly how to get her finished and out with a degree in hand in Dec. I did the legwork and then we presented her case tto the dept chair and her committee. Even managing all the sigs today and got it past the medusa (better known) as the dean's secretary, as well.

AND

I helped figure out a way around withdrawing for a student today aswell. Even going so far as to find a 10 hr a week on campus job for her, got to love those contacts.

Thus....I rock
Today at least.

While I like quiet most of the time, it does take more effort than normal to keep my nosing around instinct in check.

I have been largely good and just working up acct manager spreadsheets and quick guides to certian thing in Banner for my faculty. However I did do some major snooping in relatively public domain. I check all the HEAF monies accts and the current encumberances in them. I am impressed some faculty are very weasley or whiny. I also poked to see what some of the student options might eb in banner when that goes on line in the spring sometime. I heard the conversion starts in April, but that may just be yet anouther rumor.

I think I have managed to get myself taken off the email survey of help desk calls list. I sent 2 rather rough surveys in recently and have not gotten any more.
So, I called one of my favorite OIT people and asked. I was told they take a selected sample each month officially. BUt that each one has to be cleared with CIO. interesting and probably not one of things everybody knows.

I have to admit I have been rather enjoying reading about a couple of people's trips. My world is small here. So, some times other people's experiences are neat to hear about.

Hmmm.....Here comes some one with something for me to do! good.

Quiet and more Quiet

Today is rather quiet around the ranch. Only 4 faculty lasteduntil after lunch. BY 3 we were down to 2. and I am not sure they exactly count as separate, ie husband and wife team.

Even Big Boss' secretary has been counting the minutes. I on the other hand have been mucking with banner both version trying to see if I can get something to work without calling in the calvary.

I think the massive middle of the night advil because my silly shoudler hurts again is finally wearing off. I E I can think straight and rapidly once again.

I hear every vehicle that goes by on the highway. I hear when bossman types.

Oops,I had almost forgotten about soccer practice tonight too!
